Bears on Parade!

I love the 4th of July! Fireworks, Cook-Outs, Parades, all of it! Here's a fun "Bears on Stilts" project that draws inspiration from the holiday. I did this project with my pre-k class but would work for older kids too!

Materials:

Bear Printout
Heavy Drawing Paper or Cardstock (cardstock can be found at any office supply store, it's a heavier weight than computer paper but reasonably inexpensive)
Bristol
Pencils
Black Sharpie (optional, helps hold onto drawing details)
Oil Pastels
Grey Acrylic Paint, watered down to watercolor consistency
Purple Acrylic Paint, watered down to watercolor consistency
Paintbrushes
Glitter (optional, for fireworks)
Scrap paper or craft paper
Scissors
Glue

Step One:
Draw bear in pencil on cardstock and outline in Sharpie. Color hat and collar with oil pastel. I like bright colored stripes best! Paint bear with grey acrylic (watered down). Set aside to dry or for faster drying time, dry with hairdryer.
Step Two:
Draw grass with green oil pastel along bottom of Bristol. Paint background with purple acrylic (watered down).
Step Three:
Cut two long strips out of brightly colored or printed scrap paper and glue long ways to background for tall legs. Cut out bear and glue atop of the legs. Draw fireworks in glue and add glitter!
